The story

Madrid, Shrove Tuesday 1930. On Calle de Carretas, where the Gaceta was printed for a century and a half, the Gran Hotel Poymar celebrates its opening with a masked ball. Don Rafael Soler, one of its partners, is saving the surprise of the night: when the masks come off at midnight, he will announce a theatre bearing the name of Albéniz, to open with an opera by the maestro that nobody has ever heard.

But when the masks come off, Don Rafael is nowhere to be seen. He is found on the mezzanine, among the furniture of the exhibition, and the score is gone.

Six masks. A lost opera. You have until the orchestra plays the last waltz.

  • Two actors who never break character: Commissioner Beltrán leads the investigation and Tino, the cloakroom waiter, knows more than he says.
  • Six masked suspects: Columbine, Harlequin, the Lady in White, Pierrot, the Black Domino and the Devil.
  • An evidence folder per team and a phone to solve it, with the ranking on the screen. Once solved, each team opens its box and joins the final race across the room: only one recovers the score.
  • At the end, the accusation, the case report and a photocall.

Frequently asked questions

What is The Last Curtain?

A live murder mystery in teams of 2 to 5, with the same mechanics as Mystery Nights and a different story and setting. Two actors open the night and never break character; each team gets its evidence folder and solves it from a phone, with the ranking on the screen. Once solved, it opens its box and joins the final race to recover the lost Albéniz score. At the end, the accusation, the winner and a photocall. No knowledge of opera or history needed.

How does the night go?

Arrive at the time of your session on the mezzanine of the hotel. About 20 minutes later Commissioner Beltrán opens the case and you have 66 minutes of play. Then the accusation, the winner and the photocall. To make a night of it, the hotel has a restaurant on the 2nd floor and the UMusic Rooftop Casa Chicote on the 7th (not included).

What do I pay now and what later?

Now, a €10 deposit per player. The balance, €19 per player, is paid on arrival. Total price €29 per person, VAT included.

What if the minimum of 10 players is not reached?

Three days before, we check each session. If it has not reached 10, we cancel it, email you and refund the full deposit automatically.

Can I cancel?

Let us know at least a week in advance and we refund the deposit in full. With less notice the deposit is non-refundable, but write to us: if there is room on another date we will try to move you.

Is there a minimum age?

Yes: over 18s only. ID may be requested at the entrance.

Where is it?

At the UMusic Hotel Madrid, Calle de la Paz 11, next to Puerta del Sol (metro Sol). The game is on the hotel mezzanine: reception will point you upstairs.
